Revive your spring fashions with a touch of colors and flair!
Hands-on time: Under two hours depending on the amount of detail and how
many items you do.
Total time: Plus 24 hours of drying time for the Touch relief paints.
Skill: Easy
Cost estimate: Under $20.00 (depending on how many paint colors are using)
(Excluding the cost of fashion outfit.)
Materials & tools:
• Assorted fashion items of your choice (I used a shirt and skirt that had a basic
pattern already on them and a plain v-neck t-shirt)
• Touch multi-surface relief paint by Pébéo in assorted colors and effects (gloss:
chocolate, volume: orange, aniseed lime green, white, turquoise, glitter: brown)
• A plastic sheet or piece of cardboard.
• Embellishment accessories, transparent cabochons, sequins rhinestones
(Materials for this project are available at arts, crafts, fabric and the above-
mentioned stores.)
This spring...don't just take out last years cloths and hang them up...give them a
little style and colors revival first”
I have just as much fun embellishing my clothes as I do with home decorative
accessories. How to customize and reinvent your spring and summer wardrobe
with style. As with home decorative accents, my rule of thumb is the same; you
don’t have to spend a fortune to create the latest fashion trends to look and feel
good. Make the most of your wardrobe by simply adding some substance, color
and glitter. I utilized a combination of new and renewed items that I already had
and liked, to all co-ordinate together. The results were so spectacular that I
wanted to share with you how really simple it is to give your wardrobe a fashion
make-over with only a few basic supplies. A few strokes of Touch relief paints
here and there, along with a few embellishments and you’re done. Touch paints
come in a variety of effects, such as pearl, metallic, gloss, crystal, volume, and
glitter.
Pre-wash, dry and iron the fashion items to be painted and adorned. For
optimum paint adhesion, do not use bleach or softeners. I painted these clothing
items directly on my ironing board because it was easy to handle the item and
work on one section at a time while the freshly painted area was free to dry.
Cover your work area or ironing board with a plastic sheet, or, place a piece of
cardboard between two layers of fabric to prevent the color from seeping
through.
Floral Skirt: Pretty skirts from peasant to flounce of all lengths are presently the
“must have” item this spring. To add dimension and pizzazz to a pattern that is
already on a skirt or item, simply outline them with assorted colors of Touch
relief paints. The nozzle tip applicator makes this easy to do. Press the tube
lightly and glide evenly. Follow the design, working on one section at a time until
the entire skirt is painted. You can also create loops, swirls and dots over the
existing pattern. New cap sizes are available to create other effects such as 3
lines, ribbon and thin-style types of lines. I used volume turquoise and white,
and then glitter brown. Once you are satisfied with the composition, set it aside
to let the paints dry and cure completely at room temperature for 24 hours.
Deep-V-neck-T; When using Touch paints you can either follow a design that is
already on clothing items or you can opt to go free-hand. You can also add your
own design to a specific piece of clothing. Purchase iron-on transfer paper,
available at fabric retail stores. Some iron-on transfer papers are available with
ready-to-use designs. Iron the design onto clothing and apply the Touch paints
as and where desired. I applied a orange volume free-style design consisting of
swirls, dashes and dots onto a simple orange V-neck-T. Once the t-shirt was
heat-set, I then bejeweled it with a few cabochons in different sizes. My $9.00 t-
shirt now looks like a $50.00 designer T-shirt.
Funky Shirt; Touch relief paints can even be used for curves or funky graffiti-
style artwork. I purchased a shirt that had white embroidery flowers all over and
assorted text and scribbles printed on it. This was a nice shirt to begin with but
now it has a Wow! factor. I applied white volume Touch around the embroidered
flowers, and lime-green over only a few of the letters in a squiggle style to make
them standout. I then used the gloss chocolate Touch to go over some of the
free-style flower designs. Once heat set I applied a few cabochons here and
there, and voila!
Important notice: Heat-set the fabric paints. With the new touch fabric
heating is no longer required. The Touch paints also act as an adhesive, apply
a dab and then the garnish, patting it down to secure it in place. Let the notions
dry to fully bond to the fabric for 12 to 24 hours. Once fully air dried, the paints
are machine washable, waiting at least 48 hours before washing. The colours
will not fade, crack or peel-off, and remain flexible once dry.
Variations: Clothing accessories (belts, sun hats, purses, sandals, running
shoes) can also be jazzed up in a jiffy with Touch. Great for kids and teens
fashions as well and easy for them to do it themselves. Since it was so much fun
to do, I then went on to do other t-shirts, shorts, jeans, and jackets in the same
manner. Try adding lace to long tank-tee’s, skirts or dresses, fringe or patterned
ribbon to sleeves or Capri pants. Notions of all types can be used, studs,
rhinestones, sequins, beads, fringes, patch work, appliqués, ribbons, buttons,
pretty much anything that you like or that catches your fancy! The money saved
on your summer wardrobe can now be used to go out to dinner and show off
your new, original outfits.
Oh! and yes, try the Touch paints to create stunning summer décor accessories
as well. It is great on items such as tablecloths, coordinating napkins, cushions,
placemats, runners and curtains. Since Touch paints are multi-surface paints
they can also be applied to wood, metal, plaster and leather. Add a splash of
color to your outdoor accessories such as planters, address signs, garden
ornaments etc.
